Hi! I’m Kelly. It’s lovely to meet you here -
and I hope we get to meet in person too.
My name is Kelly (she/her) and I’m an artist and photographer living & working on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen people (Victoria, BC). I’ve been using photography as a means to document my own life and the lives of my friends for as long as I can remember, and began shooting professionally 4 years ago. I’m in a constant process of learning & experimenting, and always striving to try something new.

a few things i enjoy…
Horror films, picking wildflowers and summer berries, sleeping in my tent under the stars, that morning golden hour streaming in through the window, witnessing my friends grow, homemade soup with fresh bread and butter, listening to people talk about what they are passionate about, long bike rides, the ocean, sleeping in, getting up early, coffee, dogs, cats, goats, sheep and cows, fireplaces, witnessing love and connection, loving and connecting with others.
I strive to romanticize the everyday - the way the city looks in the springtime and a forest looks in the fog, the messy undone bed in the morning light, a kiss on the forehead. I’m here to celebrate and immortalize some of the biggest transitions and changes of your life, but I find equal joy and inspiration in watching the deer in the park or sharing a meal with friends on a blanket on the grass. It’s all meaningful, there is beauty everywhere, and it is a constant process to learn to notice it.
my work & process
My photography work centers around film, however I also own a digital camera and will use that as well - mostly as a backup (film is unpredictable!) Shooting on film gives the photos their gritty look which we call ‘grain’. I find that film photography has a special way of capturing light and colour that is simply unmatched in the digital world. Sometimes in film, there is evidence of the process seen in the final images as ‘imperfections’ - to me they are the charm of analog photography.
so, why film?
I love the way film feels natural and timeless even when looking at a photo that is 30 years old. To maintain this as much as possible, I don’t edit my photos very much. I prefer to do most of the work ‘in-camera’, as it forces me to be more present and in the moment as I’m shooting. It slows me down and tunes me into the process - every image counts so I pay more attention to each one.
working with me
I shoot a mix of documentary-style and intentionally crafted weddings, family sessions, and portraits on film. I’m located on VancouverIsland - but happy to travel for shoots to BC’s interior, the Gulf Islands, and beyond.
Being photographed can be vulnerable and nerve-wracking - and that’s completely normal. I’ll work with you to find some poses that feel like you and the way you’d like to see yourself. From there, as we lean into the process and get more comfy, is where the real magic begins. I love giving poses as a starting point, but the best photos are captured during the in-between moments - while you’re fixing your clothes, a laugh with your partner, and when you’ve forgotten you’re being photographed.
All of my shoots are focused around consent and comfort. The most important thing in the shooting experience is that those posing for the photos are as comfortable and safe as possible, and I’ll never ask you to pose or dress in a way that you don’t want to! I’ll offer regular check-ins, ask for permission, and always respect your boundaries.
