about
My name is Kelly (she/her) and I’m an artist and photographer living & working on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen people (Victoria, BC). I’ve been using photography as a means to document my own life and the lives of my friends for as long as I can remember, and began shooting professionally 4 years ago. I’m in a constant process of learning & experimenting, and always striving to bend the rules and try something new.
Grainfog Imagery is one of my artistic projects that extends my photographic practice to others; I’d like to make the process of photographing your life a collaborative and comfortable one. I approach each wedding with an intentional blend of fine art and documentary honesty. My work is a celebration of the between moments, the tender care and labour that goes into crafting each wedding day, the way light scatters through the tree canopy, and ultimately, an ode to the imperfection and raw honesty of film.

I’ve been working with film for over 10 years, and the first time I developed my own roll and prints in the darkroom, I was hooked. There is something so magical about the tactile nature of film, and the intentional process of composing each shot. In an increasingly digitized world, where we are inundated with massive amount of images constantly, I find myself more interested in quality over quantity. This preference is aesthetic as well - the images I constantly return to and am most inspired by, are all captured on film. There is something about the way light and colour is exposed onto a negative that simply can’t be imitated in the digital realm. You could try, but why not use the real thing?

Yes, Absolutely! Included in all of my wedding packages is travel on Southern Vancouver Island (up to Port Alberni & Courteney/Comox) and the southern Gulf Islands (up to Gabriola). Travel to Vancouver, Tofino, the Sunshine Coast and beyond will have some additional travel fees added.

Yes! Although film is my first love and definitely my focus, I’ll always bring along a digital camera as well for added security. I see digital as a backup; in case a film camera fails on a wedding day, to use when I need to take a high volume of images (for example, family photos) and for when we are in a difficult lighting situation and I’m unsure of how the film might turn out.
A finished wedding gallery might be 80/20 film/digital or it could be 50/50, ultimately depending on your needs, preferences, and lighting on your wedding day. If you’d like your wedding shot exclusively on film (a dream! This is my favourite!), please get in touch for a custom quote.
