a golden hour maternity shoot with Dzen at Cowichan Lake

In October of 2022 I had the honour of capturing my lovely friend Dzen’s pregnancy - the first time I had ever done a maternity shoot. I met her at her hotel in Lake Cowichan, and we started with some shots of her on her bed, with the beautiful late afternoon sunshine streaming in through the windows, making dramatic shapes for us to experiment with. We then headed out to the lake for golden hour, and took some photos of her along the forest path and just before the sun set - in the water. In October the water is freezing, but Dzen is daring, fearless, and open to just about anything for the sake of art. It was a joy to shoot her during her first pregnancy and explore my first time doing a maternity shoot with a friend.
